Tucson

I waited fours and stepped off in the dust of Tucson.
I saw a roll over with a semi due to the winds. Our bus protrayed ever gust and bellow. A low system was moving through going through the area and I was walking right into this.
A community ride was not to miss, for the fallen and injuried who could not make it. It was massive a motorcade allowed the group to stay together and run red lights. Pedestrains waited and then were told to move back.
Bussiness owners commented on how we killed thier bussiness. Motorists either stared in awe or in anger. The anchor ghost bike rode in the back of a white pick up truck. It was refreshing taking the lane on roads with bike shoulders and crappy bike shoulders. For one hour we ruled the street which forbids such activities. We defy death every day.

I rode in from downtown area on bicycle I used an M.U.P., and some well worn pedestrain bridges. If weather permits I will ride to the boneyard.

So I didn't go on my big bike ride due to the heat, but I still managed to get the things I needed, only closer to home. I will postpone this trip till next week. I do need to acquire a few items. Next week I will need to wake up earlier in order to beat the heat.
The temperature was 101 yesterday and 102 today. Can we get 103 on Saturday?
The full moon was a nice touch, and the ride nice and uneventful. The route takes me down a bike Blvd., and there were lots of cars using it for some reason, even a cop car. Normally you don't have motorists using the road. The main road is on the other side of the wall which runs parallel to the bike Blvd.

Weekly Dispatch

Down with the car, people don't like you anymore.

Ok it may take a few more years, but it is starting. People are questioning why they spend so much time behind the wheel going some place. For good reason why?

Stop looking under the couch cushions to pay for gas. Taking transit can save you some real cash. Reoport here

Of course the government won't have this, you must buy a car now you peon.
"Consumers would get vouchers for as much as $4,500 from the government to trade in their gas-guzzling cars under a compromise plan that could help advance a broad measure to combat climate change."

A run down on the topics.
People are consolidating trips or choosing not to go on these trips, something which car free people do a lot of. You would be amazed how many miles you can reduce by simply doing one trip a day to accomplish everything. (one trip is an out and back no matter how long it takes. )
I suspect car pooling is another major contributer for this reason of less miles.

The Carfree blogs keep churning away there are so many it is becoming a movement I can't keep up with all of them. Real world examples of how to ditch the car. I take the money I save from not owing a car, and spend it on monthly trips out of town. I now go more places than I did with a car HA!

With the weather getting better for most of the nation and worse for others.Click for Phoenix Sky Harbor International, Arizona Forecast
I invite you to get out during bike month, and with this PSA ad how can you not. What a wonderful world cycling makes.

This is truly frustrating for me in how the laws benefit someone with a weapon. Leaving the vulnerable person who is doing a great and noble deed by getting out of the car, to be nothing more than road kill.
Here is just one example 5 days in jail for driver under the influence

I really think the government is against transit for some reason? They refuse to give operational funds to help people out. They only will give them infrastructure funding which increases the operational budget. Somehow I don't see how this works in my favor. Even further they give you a 4500 bonus to get a new car. Keep in mind you get no bonus for giving up your car all together.

It is getting back to the 100 degrees. I am not looking forward to this summer at all. I got spoiled last summer by vacating Phoenix. May also starts my fourth year at car free. Yea no need to go back to paying someone else hundreds of dollars a month. I can just hop on the bike.
I found what I want to do with my life, ride a bike around the world. Once I get the money I am so there. It must be liking finding the perfect women I imagine. You spend you days dreaming of the next tour. Where you will go and what you will see.
I am hoping to do this next couple of weeks for a short three day. Se how far I can get before I have to reluctantly come back.

Yes a circular route,
Today I had off from my spying. It was bike to work day. My friend and I biked to college and he biked to work also. It was a nice leisurely ride. We went down Oak streets on the reservation which served a nice slow pace.
We then went to eat at a sub shop and then went to our destinations. It was a little hot but the breeze felt good. Not to strong like the last three weeks. No honking and everything worked out, and I even found a new route to my Sub shop.
Life is good I have another two days off.

Nothing really interesting. Like following a bicycle cop. Scottsdale is completing the streets on Indian School Road. It is in the process of adding bike lanes and no extra vehicle lanes. The last piece should be in place to cross the whole city from east to west. After I found my Miller to Drinkwater shortcut I haven't needed that. Love finding little shortcuts.

So today I followed a bike cop heading to work I imagine. Since Scottsdale has different color uniforms. I had to time two lights to catch him. So I had Osborn and Thomas both stop him. Which is what I needed. Going to work the fire engine door rolled up but didn't pull out. He let me by. So I just kept on going. He then went on with his lights a flashing out of the house.
So some strange things going on. I found money I thought I lost a couple times over by now. One more day.

The Weekly Dispatch

I start my life as a spy, tomorrow and ooo how I love to be a spy. The spy business isn't what it use to be. Good thing I only need to do a four day. I feel as though my whole life is disjointed by these continual jaunts outside normal life. I won't complain to much it pays me some bills, and I just the throw the others away.

You can never post what you want to say, unless you like jail. I say that even as a non spy.

Now granted one has an investigation going on. The other is only a few days old.
I never can understand how one gets this and the other gets that. Just yesterday a person hit one pedestrian and fled then hit another pedestrian. He should be getting what the Drag racer is getting, but we know he won't or will they finally come down tough on this person. I am trying hard to believe they will. MURDER to be continued.

In New York more protected bike lanes and this one is two way bike lane.

If your not familiar there is a big park and so it made the separated bike path easy. Yet This design might go farther, NYC is making a big push on bikes, as it has no other choice. Mass is expensive, and cars are horrible.
I like this design for one way streets as they are too limiting on cycling unless you can contra flow.

You should note Minneapolis Minnesota recently took down bike lanes that had contra flow. Which worked great in my opinion.

This is what intensification is.

I went in a clock wise motion or eastbound. It was cold, but I was fine after chilling out. Wind going to Mesa was tiresome for it has been almost three weeks of strong winds. Not to bad with the tail wind, cross winds.
Coming home more cold and less wind only 15 mph and calm by the time I am done going west of course. I did have to extend my ride and think on my feet how to get to 56th street. I wasn't sure where the drop off, was so my route had me doing some back tracking to 56th street. Which meant riding past all the cars stopped on the street doing the same thing I was doing.
I whizzed by all the cars and then waited a few cars back. I never get to ride in traffic like this so it was a nice change of pace. Me passing every one. At one point I got to take the left lane while passing cars it was awesome.

The one postal guy stated "Come on up (to the front)." "I don't want to start an incident" I replied. "I think you already did." Laughing away.

Cars 60-90 min
bike 15 mins.

I celebrated my lazy self and got some food before heading home.

Headwind going into the wind. Eastbound into Mesa. I saw two cyclist. This was a rare treat I haven't seen a cyclist here for at least six months. See Google maps of the Salt River Crossing., Yes you cross the river bed.

The cyclist were riding to the right and almost got ran over. I was taking the lane Youtube crossing Salt River Not to worry my life was also in danger by the same person. He honked and huffed, but didn't blow me down I was taking the lane and looking in my mirror. I then looked real long at him at the red light with my own two eyes. Now having a wide outside lane which starts here at the light and then bike lane. I normally would line up behind him so he doesn't have to pass twice.

I always like riding on the reservation so peaceful.

I rented a car and drove down to Tucson to see a friend. I put the bike in the back seat and the wheels in the trunk.

People who normally drive a motor vehicle loose the human perception of speed. I have no problems sitting at a red light or going under the speed limit. I know I move three times as fast with out any sweat. Often times you hear them stating how safe their motor speed is. Confusing their own car safety for the safety of a pedestrian.

gas was ok 13 dollars @ 33 mpg. I increased it from 31.3 to 33 mpg. Yes I was pulled over looking at that.

This is a rare one way bike trip.

I wanted a rest today, but that wasn't going to happen. I needed to set myself up for a long four day. Filled with college and work. So I went off to get some rent money and some food.
It was a short ride the wind was still there I hope it goes away soon. The ride was uneventful for the most part. The usual taking the lane on Scottsdale road and all which comes with it. I was able to get off the road sooner coming home. I went through the park watched some skateboarders at the park. Then hit the grocery store.
I found some specials and I made sure not to buy to much. I had hang my bread on my handle bars so I was a little over loaded, but 3 dollars for two gallons of milk is a score.
Tomorrow will be another cold ride I can feel it.

The day was pretty bad I was really exhausted from the 12 miles into the wind. I had another horrible commute ahead of me. I headed out in the dark at times the 40 mph wind would push me back as I was going no where. After about 15 mins longer than normal I made it. It was again uneventful. I had to put my winter gloves on and it was freezing. The ride home just after sunset revealed all the down twigs. No commuters on this day.
I was happy to be home after working all night.

I was about a hundred miles away when I realized my class started today. I would be late by two hours. I hoped on the light rail and continued on bike from there. It was a great b-day I had which I celebrated with a friend. The ride was still windy getting to Central Phoenix. I was a little late since I had to work the previous night. We got to see the Navajo beauty pageant which was really neat. They slaughter lambs wow. We did some more learning and left for some dinner which were I found out I had class.
The light rail was not crowded but semi full. We moved at 17mph and hour. Yes I count it. It must do better than me or like the bus it is not worth it. I then sprinted down to the college.
A pretty intense ride all in all.

I got to park my bike in the green room which I was really happy as the lack of parking was a problem. It was great. I took a longer ride back home and some how managed my 32miles I am good like that. Somehow I just go this way and that way and it turns out to be 32 miles which is what I wanted.
I have not been doing my old rides and most likely won't be doing them any longer.

So I filled out my paperwork and will have a different and much smaller route to my job site on Thursday. Nice and hot 88 degrees. I wore dockers and long sleeved shirt. The transit police were on call at a station not sure why. Because I rode my bike I didn't have to pay for parking, nor did I have to pay for gas. The entire trip was almost free I decided to buy a 99 cent pop. Were an old man was ranting to a young man who bought ciggs and then complained at the price. I chimed in "Fight the system".
Traffic was great they are installing sidewalks ADA access along oak and 32nd street they had cones to divert traffic which allowed me to take the lane through the intersection. A police man was on seen for the construction crew. I saw some kids writing on the sidewalk and something took a nasty poop on the pedestrian bridge.
I only had one JAM revving his engine at me while at a red light of an intersection. Even though I signaled the sensor for the light, so he only had to wait a few seconds. However left turning from cross traffic clogged my lane and I happily sat there and waited for that to clear.
Lots of waving and interaction with cyclist and pedestrains.
At 64th street I pushed the button to walk and I helped a cyclist get across with a green. A black older lady was crossing the street not in a crosswalk and I stated "No need to run." She smiled and we both wished each other a happy day. One other point at a school zone I allowed a pedestrian to cross with a child.

Of course this was the third time I saw the store, but who is counting? I needed to or wanted to get to the store quicker so I used the more direct route the first time on the second trip. The first trip I used the less popular auto route.
This consists of a traffic light turning left at Oak street, and then another traffic light turn right at McDowell then I go down a hill to another right at the complex. This is a faster route as I can really hammer the pedals, once at the first stop light I can get there in a matter three minutes.

There is something to be proud of even if you don't drink alcohol.
Happy St. Patrick's day.
1. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, although he was born in Britain, around 385AD. His parents Calpurnius and Conchessa were Roman citizens living in either Scotland or Wales, according to different versions of his story.
